This has been a difficult week for me. The details of what triggered that, or what it looked like are not important. In conversations with people, I know that several folks are struggling – spiritually, emotionally, some physically. Ultimate case of COVID cabin fever? Maybe…
For me, at least, it was a serious case of “stinkin thinkin’!” If you have been around me long enough, you have heard me use these words…and this week I allowed my ’stinkin’ thinkin’ to go completely into an overwhelming case of PMS (poor me syndrome)! Fortunately, there is a cure!
I sat down and picked up my phone. Not to call a friend to complain, gossip, or play some mind-numbing game … but to receive a message from God. When I allow Him in, to minister to my aching heart and soul, He always shows up loud, large, and in charge. That day, He showed up in the form of a devotional, written by Jennie Allen. It was from her new Bible study “Get Out of Your Head.” “The more we understand our position with Christ, in Christ, through Christ, the less we try hard and the more we surrender.”
To live is Christ, to die is gain” Philippians 1.21- in fact just go ahead and read the whole book of Philippians. (Some have called it the -joy book) Remind yourself as you are reading that Paul is in prison, chained in a cell, for his teaching about Jesus when he writes this book. Ask yourself, would I ever be able to speak this much joy in those same circumstances??
Yes, I had a difficult week, yes, I certainly had PMS, but I was not nearly in a situation like Paul’s. In those few minutes, I allowed my Abba Father to minister to my soul, to remind me that He is still God, that He is still in control, and most importantly – that He is God and I am not. I do not have to fix everything; I do not have to be everywhere and be everything to everybody. 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10) Spend some time with Jesus today. Be transformed. It will rock your whole world!
Blessed to serve and share a living God!
