Jesus, Light of the World

Hebrews 12.1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.

Many of you know this verse has special meaning to me – it is what many would call a life verse. It showed up in my reading today – generally a sign that I need to pause for a moment. Stop, and re-center my focus on the only One who has never let me down.

It has been a busy week in our household (oh yea, that’s right it’s almost Christmas!) even without holiday activities ... Haley had mid-terms, Howard had appointments and was not feeling well, in addition to all of the normal events of our week. It is easy to feel defeated; it is easy to let stress, frustrations, disappointments, unfulfilled promises or sin get in the way of the joy and peace that can be found only in Christ. When we get in the middle of a PMS situation (poor me syndrome) and our pity party seems like it is going to never end, remember to look for the light of this season.

The light that is the only true relief; the only answer to the darkness of this world. Jesus Christ. Through it all, the busyness, the challenges, the disappointments, I know He has a plan for me. I know he has a plan for His church. I know I can trust His plan; I know I can stand solid on the One who came from heaven to show the way.

While I am as human as anybody, and let “stuff” get in the way, I am reminded that the Good News is the gospel of Jesus Christ. My relationship with Him is the greatest gift of all.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
